The Evolution of Kitchens: In a Nutshell chronicles the visual history of kitchens from 1890 to present day. The images are constructed in accordion style within a walnut shell (as they are a condensed history). At such a small scale, the focus of the images are not the kitchens themselves but the women within the photos. Thus, Evolution of Kitchens also chronicles the harmful perception of “woman belong in the kitchen” that has persisted throughout history.
