“Girls’ Show” is an annual, all-female athletics competition that takes place at my former high school Passaic Valley. The show was created nearly 80 years ago to embrace female athletics at a time when women’s sports teams were prohibited at the institution. The show originated in embracing women’s athleticism, but over the course of its long history, has proven girls’ absolute abilities and skill sets beyond sports. Thus, as a relatively unknown event, “Girls’ Show” the book was created to compile the history of the show by archiving articles, performance images, and yearbook pages that date from present day to the show’s inauguration in 1941. It is meant to provide a better understanding of “Girls’ Show’s” legacy and help publicize such a progressive and innovative event.
